Vietnam is becoming a more popular tourist destination in recent years now that the aftermath of the Vietnam War has long since subsided. With its trade liberalisation policies and a more market oriented outlook -
Vietnam is beginning to become a more developed country attracting foreign direct investment from overseas businesses as well as opening the country up to curious tourists looking for somewhere new to discover.
Vietnam is situated on the eastern coast of mainland Southeast Asia. It is boarded on the North by China, on the East by the Gulf of Tonkin and the East and South by the South China Sea, on the South West by the Gulf of Thailand and on the West by Cambodia and Laos.
Vietnam´s capital city Hanoi is located in the North of Vietnam. Not only is the capital a beautiful city, with breathe taking architecture and narrow streets lined with trees, it is very compact and easy to get around. Most places of interest are located fairly close together. Ho Chi Minh´s Mausoleum is definitely a place to visit but go early as there are often crowds of visitors. The Ho Chi museum offers a huge range of interesting exhibits and artefacts.
The Hoan Kiem lake is teeming with activity both on and around the lake. In the mornings you will see the locals enjoying their morning exercise as well as the variety of interesting flora and fauna around the waters edge.
As the South of Vietnam is located close to the coast of the south China sea there are an abundance of fresh fish dishes available at many of the restaurants although the Vietnamese diet consists of mainly rice and vegetables- be sure to sample as much as you can- truly mouth watering with its fresh and tantalising flavours.
With Hanoi in the North of Vietnam, the South competes with the majestic Ho Chi Minh City, formally known as Saigon. The best way to see the city is on foot in order to experience the local living of this exciting city. The best time to holiday in Ho Chi Minh City is during the dry season between December and March, when it is also slightly cooler than it is during the rest of the year in this tropical city.
Vietnam is a place to experience but make sure you apply for a visa in plenty of time before your trip and have all the necessary jabs before you venture off to this vibrant country.
