Castillo de Santa Bàrbara is a good starting point, it is the main landmark of the islands so definitely a good way to get acquainted. Castillo de Santa Bàrbara situated on Mount Benacantil is one of the largest fortresses in Europe. The view from Castillo de Santa Bárbara is truly spectacular; from here approximately 500ft high you can absorb the magnificent landscape of Alicante. At night the fortress comes alive, the lit fortress is a certainly picture perfect. If you like the fortress make sure you visit Castillo de San Fernando (St Ferdinand Castle) , this castle was built on Tossal hill at the beginning of the 19th century.
From here venture to the Esplanada de España, this famous boulevard offers a number of restaurants, pubs and bars. This palm tree lined marble walkway is constantly buzzing with people; tourists and locals can mingle, relax and enjoy some cool refreshments.
The Espalanda leads to the equally relaxing white sands of Playa del Postiguet beach. This is definitely a popular spot to cool down and fight the midday heat. However, it’s clear that during peak season finding solitude on the beach can be difficult; so, if it is peaceful relaxation that you’re after, travel a little further up the coast to San Juan Beach. The beach is situated approximately 5 miles from central Alicante. Simply breathtaking, complete with white sand just fewer bodies. San Juan Beach offers the perfect spot for sunbathing serenely. There is a good selection of bars, cafes, restaurants, shops and water sports on the beach.
 For those of you who are fascinated with religious architecture and history, another Major attraction is Iglesia de Santa Maria (St Mary’s church). The church was built between the 14th and 16th centuries and has a gothic style architecture. Museo De La Asegurada is an art museum located next to Santa Maria. This museum contains some of the finest work of art. The art exhibited is a mixture of various art styles, for example contemporary art, sculptures and lithographs. Work from Spanish artists such as Juan Gris, Picasso and Zobel as well as work from non-Spanish artists such as Agam, Chagall, Calder, etc can be found within the museum.
Nature lovers make sure you visit Canalejas Park; this park is the oldest in the city. The park has a combination of spectacular fountains and impressive sculptures. There are various different parks each offering something unique. For amazing waterfalls, lakes and palm trees head to towards the outskirts of the city to El Palmeral. Or if you’re fascinated by tropical and exotic animals a visit to both Terra Natura Park and Mundomar Marine Park is definitely a must.
