Bulgaria – there are beautiful sand beaches on the Black Sea, wild mountain ranges in the Balkan Mountains, charming river banks on the Danube, untouched nature parks and culturally significant cities like the capial city Sofia. Bulgaria unites everything that can be expected of

a holiday destination and whats more, is also modest and friendly about it. Bulgaria is no longer an insider’s tip amongst holiday-makers, although life still remains fairly quiet in most places. A good touristic infrastructure, hotels, restaurants and transport networks are all there and leave little to be desired. Around 8 million inhabitants in total make up the population of the new EU state in the Balkans, which has been a popular holiday destination since the Cold War.

The coast along the Black Sea has remained a real tourist magnet up until today. No wonder, since here you can find sunny beaches, beautiful bays and romantic spots all along the coast. The names of the coastal cities, Sun Beach and Golden Beach, hint at the beauty of this region. The holiday accomodation along the coast like Nessebar, Albena and Pomorie are popular, mostly due to their wide range of leisure activites. If you want to do more than just lie on the beach and go swimming, you can also go scuba diving, sailing or water-skiing. Tennis fans, golf players and horse lovers would definitely get their money’s worth. The biggest city on the Black Sea is called Varna and is worth visiting not just because of its amazing location. The capital city Sofia is also culturally on par with other cities. The Nesawisimost Square, where the new Opera House and the old bell tower are found, is an ideal starting point for a stroll to other historical sights in the city. You can reach the harbour, Bulgaria’s “gate to the world” by passing through the alleys in the living quarters. The Sea Garden is also impressive and there you can find the Marine Museum, Nature Museum, the Aquarium and the Planetarium as well as the Zoo and the Delphinarium.
Anyone who feels more comfortable in mountainous areas or loves long hiking tours, should pay a visit to the region Rhodopes. Historical sites like the Grabnekropole in the area of Dospat, the antique settlement from the 5-6th Century B.C. near the village Stojkite, as well as well kept parts of the old archaic street between Persenk and Murgawets can also be found here as well as caves and ravines that can be seen with a guide. The cities Borovetz, Pamporovo and Bansko, that have become famous spa centres are also ideal places to go skiing. If you are planning a winter holiday, you can expect excellent slopes and a beautiful natural backdrop.

 The Bulgarian capital city Sofia is a must-see on your journey through this country. The political, economical and also the cultural centre is impressive, boasting the Aleksander-Nevski Cathedral, the city’s landmark. Here you can also enjoy the colourful night-life of this university city. Also Veliko Tarnowo, the former capital city of Bulgaria, is highly recommendable and definitely worth a visit.
Built on three hills and surrounded by the river Jantra, the city makes a lasting impression with its architectural master pieces, the charming Assenow quarter and the many religious monuments.
Make sure you don’t miss the culinary highlights of the Bulgarian cuisine. Through the Oriental and European influences, the food is especially diverse and always well spiced. Even the Bulgarian wine is able to compete with its French and Spanish counterparts, so you should definitely have a taste.
