Brazil

Distant Brazil lies in the north east of the South American continent and makes up almost half of its surface area. It is a country of superlatives and is the same size as Europe. From being the most populated country in South America to boasting the longest river in the world,

Brazil has a lot to offer and will simply take your breath away. The imposing landscape of Brazil is formed by the wide-spread rain forests of the Amazonian deep lands in the north and the high lands and mountains of the south. While the agricultural basis of the country is in the Savanna areas of the mid-west, the majority of the population lives close to the Atlantic coast, where almost all the big cities are located. The most well-known cities are the world metropoles São Paulo, the lively Rio de Janeiro, and Brazil’s capital Brasilia.
Deciding on the most important sights in Brazil seems near impossible if you consider the size of the country. A rental car is essential if you want to even come close to discovering all the treasures this county has to offer. Touristically, Brazil is not completely developed but this is compensated by the authenticity and diversity of the countrry. The first touristic destination worth naming is undoubtedly the Amazon region. Photos and TV images of this unique landscape are nothing compared to experiencing it first-hand. Be lead through the river lands and rain forests and soak up the unique atmosphere. In the east, on the border to Argentina is the river Iguaçu and the National Park of the same name. The Iguaçu waterfalls which are found there are three times bigger than the Niagara falls and are one of Brazil’s highlights.
For tourists hungry for the big cities, there is a broad selection. Rio de Janeiro is a very popular  holiday destination. The city is a natural paradise, in which forests, mountains, beaches, lagoons and the South Atlantic meet, forming a unique panorama. The former capital city is dominated by the mountain Corcovado where the famous Jesus statue stands.

The lively flair of the city that never sleeps is very much loved. Don’t miss the greatest attractions including the annual carnival, when the city finds itself in a state outside the norm. São Paulo, also located in the south east of the country, is the biggest city in the southern hemisphere and the economic motor of Brazil. Particularly interesting is the rich cultural life which has developed in this modern city. In addition to spending time on the beach, it is also worth going on a shopping excursion or two. The capital city Brasilia is a light-weight in terms of population when compared to the other densely populated cities in Brazil, but it has a lot to offer in terms of leisure activities around the man-made Paraná lake. The architecture of Brazil is outstanding and has been greatly influencd by Osca Niemeyer. The north east of the country is also popular amongst visitors and has a few charming cities built in typical colonial style like Maranhão, Piauí or Maceió. Apart from that, this part of Brazil also has divine beaches.
For a trip around Brazil, several weeks should be planned. Or you should travel to only one of the regions and explore it intensively. Whether you want a calming beach holiday, breath-taking nature or the big-city life of Brazil – this country will not disappoint.
